I have tried every method under the sun for successfully boiling eggs. I did finally nail down a stove-top method that worked pretty darn well most of the time. The issue was that sometimes the eggs would peel beautifully, and others would be a complete disaster.

Try taking mangled deviled eggs to your family’s Thanksgiving dinner. It’s not really the best look (although I will say my dear family still happily ate them). This was until I discovered the Instant Pot method for boiling eggs, and well, let’s just say life hasn’t been the same since.

Boiling eggs in the instant pot is FAST, EASY, and NO-FAIL. No more mangled deviled eggs, thank you very much!

I’ll walk you through how to do it. It’s really insanely simple.

What You’ll Love About This Recipe

  • EASY TO PEEL: These eggs peel perfectly EVERY TIME.
  • QUICK AND EASY: This recipe can be made in under 30 minutes and requires very little work from you.
  • GREAT FOR MEAL PREP: This is the easiest method for preparing hard boiled eggs in advance! They work great as a snack, or chopped up and mixed in with some homemade mayo on sandwich bread for the perfect egg salad sandwich.

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Eggs: You can use as many as will fit in a single layer in your pressure cooker. Room temperature eggs or eggs pulled straight from the fridge works just fine!
  • Water: Filtered water is best! You will need 1 cup for this recipe.

Rachael’s Top Tip!

Don’t wait to peel your eggs! Although it can be tricky to peel eggs while they are still hot, I find that running them under cool water while peeling them helps to get the perfect peel every time.

Step by Step Instructions

  1. Begin by measuring out 1 cup of cold water into a glass measuring cup. Pour it directly into the inner pot of the Instant Pot.
  2. Place the wire rack into the inner pot of the pressure cooker. Add eggs (you can use as many as will fit in one layer-don’t stack them on top of each other!) I usually steam 8-10 at a time.
  3. Place the lid on the pressure cooker, making sure it has sealed completely and the vent knob is set to SEAL.
  4. Set cook time to 5 minutes on HIGH pressure.
  5. After cook time has elapsed, let the pressure release naturally for 5 minutes (you can set a timer to help yourself keep track of time).
  6. Once 5 minutes has elapsed, release any remaining pressure in Instant Pot by switching the vent knob to the VENT position (be cautious of any hot steam!)
  7. Using a potholder, remove the inner pot from the pressure cooker. Carefully drain the hot water over the sink. Place the pot into the sink and immediately begin to run cold water over the eggs.
  8. Keeping the cold water running, begin peeling each egg. You can lightly tap/roll the eggs on the counter to get them to crack. They should peel very easily once cracked.
  9. Enjoy!

Quick Tips for Success

  • You will need to use the trivet that comes with your Instant Pot to make this recipe. You don’t want the eggs sitting right up against the stainless steel insert- they could burn!
  • Make sure to measure at least one cup of water. The Instant Pot cannot come to pressure without enough water.
  • Depending on your specific model, the pressure cook button may be labeled as the manual button.
  • Make sure to use cold water, as hot or even warm water can alter the cook time.
