behind the blog
Hey, I’m Rachael!
I’m a married mom of two living in the foothills of the Tennessee mountains. My best friend and husband of nine years, Andrew and myself have spent the past few years planting our roots and building our handcrafted log home (hence the name of the blog!)
A FEW FUN FACTS ABOUT ME:
I was born and raised here in East Tennessee, and I feel blessed to be able to call it home.
I love to garden. It is truly a passion of mine! It brings me so much joy starting a variety of flowers, herbs, and veggies and watching the garden burst to life each season.
I have always had an interest in cooking and baking, from the time I was a little kid! I have so many fond memories growing up of being in the kitchen with my mom and grandmothers, learning from them and eventually creating my own recipes. Similarly, both of my daughters love to cook and bake with me. We are constantly in the kitchen getting creative (and messy!)
Why Scratch Cooking?
When I became a first time mom four years ago, I quickly became very aware of the ingredients in our food, and that many of them aren’t great. Added sugars, dyes, preservatives… you name it. I have only become more and more aware of this as time went on.
I have always loved cooking at home. The more knowledge I gained and the more research I did into nutrition, gut health, and the power of whole foods without all the added yucky stuff, the more determined I became to cook as many meals as I could for my family using quality ingredients.
And you know what? It’s much easier than I ever thought.

Creating a Simple Mason Jar Bouquet
When that summertime heat hits and the garden starts pumping out a bounty of colorful blooms, one of my favorite things to do is head out in the early morning and cut some flowers! My go to is a simple mason jar bouquet that is both simple and beautiful.
