Healthy and Delicious Homemade Chocolate Milk Recipe
This homemade chocolate milk recipe uses just three simple ingredients that you likely already have hanging around your kitchen! Easy, simple, and definitely kid approved, it comes together in just a couple minutes and makes the perfect sweet treat anytime.
There are few things better than a cold glass of chocolate milk. Whenever my daughter requests a glass, I am always happy to oblige because I love it too! And having a super simple recipe on hand for homemade chocolate milk makes it even better.
And the best part? It is way healthier and more nutritious than the store-bought stuff. I love that it comes together quickly without any added refined sugar or artificial flavors that are usually found in chocolate milk mixes or store-bought syrups. It also doesn’t come with a ton of added sugar. No trip to the grocery store needed!
A healthy chocolate milk recipe that’s homemade and delicious? It really is possible. My daughter (who is quite the chocolate milk enthusiast) would agree.
Let’s make it! Your taste buds will thank you later.
Ingredients
- Milk
- Unsweetened cocoa powder or cacao powder
- Maple syrup
How To Make
This recipe comes together quickly using an immersion blender. Simply add the milk, 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder, and two tablespoons of maple syrup to a wide mouth mason jar. Insert the immersion blender into the jar, making sure it is completely submerged in the milk before turning on. The ingredients mix together quickly, within 30 seconds. You will be left with delicious, frothy milk! A great, refreshing treat that you can feel good about.
Do I Have to Use an Immersion Blender?
No! You can simply whisk the ingredients together and then pour into a glass. If using this method, I recommend whisking together the maple syrup and cocoa powder together first before slowly adding the milk, continuing to whisk the whole time. This will help the chocolate milk mix together easier with no lumps. You could also use a regular blender!
What Kind of Milk is Best?
You can use whatever you like. Whole milk, reduced fat, raw milk… whatever you like! Non dairy milks also work just fine, although they may not get as frothy.
How Much Does it Make?
This recipe makes enough for one glass of milk. It can easily be doubled (or tripled!) to make multiple glasses.
Tips for Success
- I highly recommend using wide mouth mason jars. The immersion blender will easily fit into the jar.
- Do not turn the immersion blender on until it is submerged in the milk.
- You will want to use maple syrup in this recipe. It cannot be substituted for white sugar or other granulated sugars, otherwise the milk will have a grainy texture.
- Heat the ingredients briefly in a small saucepan over medium heat on the stove for a quick hot chocolate!
- You can customize this recipe easily to fit your preferences. Some folks like to add a teaspoon vanilla extract to their homemade chocolate milk, or even a small pinch of salt!
- Use softened vanilla ice cream in place of the milk for a quick and easy chocolate milkshake. You could add an extra tablespoon of cocoa powder and even peanut butter to really amp up the flavor!
