DIY Beautiful Spring Grapevine Wreath
This beautiful grapevine wreath comes together quickly using a grapevine form and some beautiful faux greenery and florals. A beautiful and easy DIY project for this spring season!
March has arrived, and with it, typical temperamental spring weather! We have had freezing temperatures and days in the lower 70s all within the past week, with today bringing in more cold temperatures and rain. I decided to go ahead and decorate the house for spring anyway, beginning with this super cute and easy grapevine wreath.
Why Grapevine?
I chose grapevine for a couple reasons. One, its beautiful! But also, fairly inexpensive and very easy to attach all your elements to, therefore making it a great choice for novel wreath makers, including myself.
Cost
I purchased everything needed for this grapevine wreath from Hobby Lobby, taking advantage of their 40% off wreaths and florals sale (wink wink).
I bought two 18 inch wreath forms for $5.99 each, making them super affordable, especially with the 40% off discount. You can check out all of their wreath sizes and price points through the link here. Adding in the florals is what makes the price point a little more flexible and personal to you. You can add as much or as little as you like to fit your style. For me, I wanted the natural element of the grapevines to be displayed in the wreath, just because I tend to prefer a more natural look.
How To:
The first step is to choose your base, which for me was the greenery. A tip here to save yourself a LOT of money is to buy a long garland of greenery and use wire cutters or maybe even garden shears (ahem, speaking from experience here…) to cut into smaller sections. Begin by adding your greenery to your wreath first, starting at the bottom and working your way up counterclockwise. This is KEY in making a wreath- you need to make sure all your floral elements are running in the same direction.
After your greenery comes the fun part! Begin adding in your floral elements, again starting at the bottom and working your way up counterclockwise. I recommend buying florals that not only vary in color, but also texture. Adding in elements like berries, seed heads, or foliage with a grassy texture helps your wreath look more realistic.
How to Attach Wreath Elements and Accents
I attached all my wreath elements using green floral wire. I simply cut a long enough piece of wire to wrap around each element, twisting it in the back and tucking into the back of the wreath to secure each element in place. You won’t have to do this for every single element, mainly for your base greenery and larger, heavier floral pieces. Floral wire is highly recommended for attaching wreath elements, and is especially easy to attach when using grapevine wreath forms. It’s also easy to find at any craft store.
If there are any pesky elements that you can’t get to sit just right, this is where a hot glue gun really comes in handy. Again, they are fairly inexpensive and easy to find at any craft or big box store. Hot glue guns also come in handy for adding in more elements like ribbon, small signs, or small decor pieces.
Once you’ve attached all your elements, you are ready to add in any final larger decor elements for a finishing touch. For spring, think Easter eggs, bunnies, carrots, cute spring themed signs… you name it!
Now go forth and make wreaths!
