Description

This homemade orange iced tea is the perfect balance of sweet, tangy, and refreshing. Perfect for summer gatherings or an afternoon pick-me-up, this recipe will become your go-to! Made with simple ingredients and bursting with flavor, it's a delicious twist on a classic that you’ll want to sip all season long.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 5 cups water ((divided))
  • 6-7 black tea bags
  • 4 cups ice
  • mint sprigs, orange slices for garnish

Instructions

  1. Make the simple syrup: In a small saucepan over medium low heat, combine freshly squeezed orange juice and sugar. Stir until the sugar has dissolved, and then remove from heat.
  2. Strain: This is optional, but if you prefer to not have any orange pulp in your tea, you can strain the simple syrup. Simply place a fine mesh strainer over a container (I use a large mason jar) and pour the simple syrup through it to get rid of any excess pulp. Tip: Place a canning funnel over the mason jar for easy pouring.
  3. Set the strained simple syrup aside and allow to cool while you make the tea.
  4. In another small pan, add 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil, and then remove from the heat. Add tea bags, and allow them to steep for 20 minutes.
  5. Meanwhile, fill a large pitcher with ice (about 4 cups).
  6. Remove the tea bags and then pour the orange simple syrup into the tea, stirring to combine.
  7. Pour the orange tea mixture into the pitcher with the ice, then add the remaining 3 cups of water. Stir well.
  8. Serve with extra orange slices and mint for garnish. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Straining: I highly recommend taking the extra step to strain the orange simple syrup mixture before adding it to the brewed tea.
  • Variations: This recipe is easily customizable! Try swapping the orange simple syrup for this blackberry simple syrup. Have fun with adding a mixture of different fruits and other garnishes, too.
  • Storage: This iced tea will store well in a airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week.
