Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte with Maple Sweet Cream
This homemade pumpkin spice latte recipe is packed full of fall flavors, making it the ultimate cozy drink! This coffee recipe combines pumpkin spice, cinnamon, and vanilla with freshly brewed coffee. Top it with maple sweet cream to make it over the top delicious.
Before we get into this post, I have to confess something.
I have never really been a pumpkin spice gal.
I know, I know. I’m sorry, but my preferred fall flavors have always been more along the apple cider/pecan/maple route, ya know? And I know that everyone always goes crazy over the Starbucks pumpkin spice latte, but I feel that this homemade latte recipe may be better. It even has less sugar, and won’t cost you $45.
Kidding! Kinda.
My point is, this homemade pumpkin spice latte is cheaper, easy to make, and packed full of more wholesome ingredients that are all around better for you.
Go ahead and grab your favorite mug and your best milk frother and allow me to explain. Your taste buds will thank you.
Ingredients
As usual, this yummy coffee drink is made up of simple ingredients:
- 8 oz strong coffee (about 1 cup)
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 tbsp maple syrup
- Extra cinnamon for garnish
How to Make Pumpkin Spice Coffee
- Make the maple whipped cream: In a small bowl, beat together 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream and 1 tbsp maple syrup until soft peaks form. Set aside.
- Make the spice mixture: In a small saucepan on the stove top, combine 1 cup whole milk, 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice, and 1/2 tsp vanilla extract. Whisk together and allow to come to a simmer over medium heat. Once the milk and spice mixture is hot, you are ready to froth!
- Using an electric milk frother, handheld frother, or a whisk, whisk the hot milk mixture until frothy and foamy. Pour over 1 cup of freshly brewed hot coffee, adding more sweetener if you prefer (I personally always add a little more maple syrup).
- Top the coffee with a generous dollop of maple whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon (or even cinnamon sticks if you’re feeling fancy).
Tips for Successful Fall Flavored Coffee
- You can adjust the amount of sweetener used to fit your preference. Feel free to switch up the sweetener to use brown sugar, honey, etc.
- I almost always have whole milk on hand, so that’s what I used for this coffee. Substitute it with the kind of milk that you like! A lower fat milk, a non-dairy milk like coconut milk, oat milk… whatever you like and have on hand.
- This recipe also works to make an iced latte! Instead of heating up the milk and spice mixture, simply combine and pour over ice. Add 1 cup of freshly brewed coffee and top with the whipped cream and cinnamon. Yum.
